Felix Zwayer has been announced as the referee for
The Gunners are currently 1-0 down after losing narrowly in London last week. Mikel Arteta's men know they have to win inside 90 minutes to stand any chance of reaching the final, their first in the competition since 2006.
UEFA have confirmed that Zwayer will officiate the spectacle in France. The 43-year-old German has been involved in over 680 games and has been in charge of six Champions League games this season.
Despite being highly rated by UEFA, Zwayer's career has a dark cloud hanging over it due to a tainted incident back at the start of his time officiating. In 2005, Zwayer accepted a £250 bribe from referee Robert Hoyzer and was handed a six-month ban, while Hoyzer received a jail term of two years and five months as well as a lifetime ban from football.
Zwayer has since revived his career, becoming one of the Bundesliga's top referees. In the summer, he officiated England's semi-final win over the Netherlands, but that hasn't stopped some from criticising him.
Then-Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham brought up the German's past during a post-match interview following a 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich. The midfielder criticised Zwayer's performance after failing to award Dortmund a penalty and handing Bayern one for handball.
"You give a referee that has match-fixed before the biggest game in Germany - what do you expect? For me, it wasn't [a penalty]," he said. "He [Hummels] is not even looking at the ball and he's fighting to get it and it hits him. You can look at a lot of the decisions in the game."
Zwayer has officiated three Arsenal games in the past. In 2018, he was referee for the 2-2 draw against CSKA Moscow in the Europa League quarter-final before officiating the 1-0 win over Greece in February 2020.
