LG Electronics has unveiled its new partnership with Xbox, bringing the Xbox app to select LG smart TVs, allowing users to enjoy gaming without the need for an Xbox console. This move follows the South Korean electronics giant’s collaboration with Xbox, which was officially announced in January 2025. Through the Xbox app, users can access Microsoft’s extensive Xbox game library and play eligible titles directly from their LG TV or compatible smart monitor, provided they have a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Xbox App Available on LG Smart TVs
The Xbox app will be accessible via the LG Gaming Portal and the LG Apps section on LG TVs running webOS 24 or newer. The app is also set to launch soon on StanbyME screens. To play the games, users must have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which grants access to hundreds of titles from game studios such as Activision, Bethesda, and Mojang. Users will only need a compatible controller to start playing from the moment they sign in, simplifying the process of diving into gaming without additional hardware.
Currently, the Xbox cloud gaming service is unavailable in India, but LG confirmed that the app will be available in over 25 countries, including the United States, the UK, Canada, Germany, and Japan. The app’s beta version is compatible with 2022 LG OLED TVs and newer models from 2023, such as OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD TVs. To access the app, users must have updated their TV software to version 23.20.01 or higher.
Expanding Xbox’s Reach and Game Pass Benefits
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can stream a wide variety of games, from popular action titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to upcoming releases such as Towerborne. The subscription service also allows users to stream games they already own, making it a versatile option for avid gamers. Alongside these developments, Microsoft has rolled out improvements to its Xbox platform, including the ability to purchase games, Game Pass subscriptions, and add-on content directly through the Xbox app on Android and iOS devices.
The integration of Xbox gaming into LG smart TVs highlights the growing trend of console-free gaming, enabling players to enjoy high-quality gaming experiences without the need for traditional gaming consoles.
