On Dev Diwali, during the auspicious time, wear clean clothes after bathing. Then, clean the place of worship.
First, anoint Lord Shiva or the Shivalinga with Ganga water. Then, offer Akshat, sandalwood paste, flowers, garlands, Bel leaves, cannabis, Dhatura, Aak flowers, cow's milk, honey, fruits, naivedya, incense, etc.
At that time, chant the Om Namah Shivaya mantra. Recite the Shiva Chalisa. Listen to the story of Dev Diwali, in which Lord Shiva kills Tripurasura, earning him the name Lord Tripurari.
Now perform the aarti of Lord Shiva with a lamp filled with cow ghee or camphor. Light an 8- or 12-faced lamp for Lord Shiva today.
On Dev Diwali, light 5, 7, 11, 51, or 101 earthen lamps in your home. Pour mustard or sesame oil in them.
