Mumbai: Advocate Gunratna Sadavarte met Special Commissioner of Mumbai Police Deven Bharti today to lodge a complaint against the actions of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers, alleging misbehavior and threats by party cadres.
Adv. Sadavarte informed the media that he has raised concerns over the aggressive behavior of MNS workers, allegedly targeting citizens over language issues. He said that the Special Police Officers have assured him that a meeting of senior police officials will be held tomorrow to address the matter.
“The officers have stated that such hooliganism will not be tolerated from tomorrow onwards. However, many victims of these attacks are not coming forward to file official complaints, which is also a matter of concern,” Avd. Sadavarte said.
Further he also demanded that action be taken against MNS chief Raj Thackeray, alleging that similar incidents had occurred back in 2008 as well. “Anyone who is engaging in unlawful acts will face action,” the police officials reportedly told Adv. Sadavarte.
Commenting on the ongoing language controversy, Adv. Sadavarte said, “Whether one speaks Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, or English – it is my right, my choice. Wherever MNS workers insult people, we will go there and honour those citizens.” Avd. Sadavarte’s strong remarks signal a rising legal and political challenge to the MNS’s recent conduct, potentially leading to heightened tensions and legal consequences.
