'Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University Embraces Global Skill Trends,' Says Governor CP Radhakrishnan At 2nd Foundation Day Event

Mumbai: “It is a matter of immense pride that the Ratan Tata Maharashtra State Skill University (RTMSSU) is recognising the needs of the present times and training students to provide skilled manpower across the globe,” said Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, addressing students at the conclusion ceremony of the university’s second foundation day held at Elphinstone Technical High School in Mumbai.

While the Governor presided as chief guest, also present on the occasion were Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Varma, Vice-Chancellor Dr Apoorva Palkar, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Chairman Dr T.G. Sitharam, Director of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training Madhavi Sardeshmukh, and Skill Development Commissioner Nitin Patil.

Praising the university’s forward-thinking approach, Governor Radhakrishnan said, “It is highly commendable that the university has initiated skill development and training in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) technology, engineering, commerce, and media.”

Emphasising the need to move beyond traditional skill sets, he added, “As times change, we must move beyond traditional skills and shape the new generation. Teachers must understand and pass on new concepts to students.”

Stressing the importance of global readiness, he added, “I appreciate the department’s decision to teach German to students. Learning a foreign language is crucial to acquiring global skills, and every student should learn at least one global language.” He further stated that Maharashtra has immense potential to provide skilled manpower to the world.

The governor also lauded the university’s move to train thousands of students in AI, real estate, service industry, and industrial management as a significant and timely step forward.

Minister Lodha expressed his appreciation for the Governor, calling him “a source of inspiration” and adding, “With his support, the university will reach new heights.”

Vice-Chancellor Dr Apoorva Palkar shared that the university is currently running various skill development courses across its centres in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur. She said, “Graduates from this university are capable of building successful careers globally,” and announced that “a state-of-the-art university campus will soon be established in Panvel with government support.”

Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Varma said that the department has enabled job opportunities for Maharashtra’s youth in Germany and is working on several more initiatives. “The university focuses not only on theoretical education but also emphasises hands-on training, which is drawing strong interest from industries,” she said, adding that “agreements with foreign companies are being finalised, and the university is poised to become a global brand.”

At the ceremony, Radhakrishnan also felicitated outstanding teaching and non-teaching staff. The award for ‘Ideal Professor’ was presented to Sandeep Jain, while Aniruddha Chavan was recognised as ‘Ideal Young Professor’. Meena Shrimali received recognition for notable administrative work, Meenakshi Patil was awarded in the librarian category, and Deepti Jadhav was honoured with the Swachh Bharat Skill Award.

In the Best Startup category, Vishnudas Vishwakarma won the first prize of Rs 3 lakh, followed by Sakshi Parekh who received the second prize of Rs 2 lakh, and Vaishnavi Kothawade who secured the third prize of Rs 1 lakh.
