Scam in '3 Idiots' Style: Jabalpur Man Uses Friend's Documents to Become Doctor

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Another case of 'fake-doctor' was reported in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, where a man pretending to be a doctor allegedly treated patients for years using fake documents.

The matter came to fore after an elderly woman lost her life after being treated by him at Marble City Hospital. After this, the deceased's son tried to meet the doctor whose name was mentioned on the medical report. During this effort he learnt about the entire 'scam.'

How it all started

The incident began in September 2024, when Manoj Kumar Mahawar, a railway officer, admitted his mother Shanti Devi Mahawar to Marble City Hospital in Napier Town for treatment. Sadly, she passed away during treatment.

Initially, the family accepted it as a natural loss. But when Manoj reviewed medical reports he found it suspicious.

The attending doctor’s name mentioned in the report was Dr. Brijraj Uikey. When Manoj tried to meet the doctor, the hospital management ignored him. Sensing something suspicious, he decided to investigate on his own.

The truth uncovered

When Manoj investigated the matter himself, he discovered that the doctor was not Brijraj Uikey but 'Satendra Singh,' who was working under Uikey's name.

Manoj met Uikey, who was working as a daily-wage painter. Here, Manoj learnt that Uikey had given his personal documents to his friend to help him with studies. The documents included his10th and 12th-grade mark sheets and caste certificate and others.

And that friend was none other than Satyendra Singh.

He used Brijraj’s documents to illegally get admission into an MBBS course, completed medical studies, and practiced as a doctor under Brijraj’s name.

Meanwhile, Brijraj continued his work as a daily-wage laborer, unaware of the fraud.

Police and health officials take action

After knowing about this, Manoj filed an FIR at Omti Police Station. CSP Sonu Kurmi confirmed that a case has been registered and investigations are underway in the matter. The police are searching for the accused who falsely practiced medicine for years.

“Initial findings show the MBBS degree was obtained using Brijraj’s documents. Whereas, Brijraj is not a doctor but a laborer,” said CSP Kurmi.

Regional Health Director Dr. Sanjay Mishra stated that two inquiry committees were formed, and the documents were even verified by the Medical Council. If the allegations are proven, he said, it points to a serious conspiracy.

Hospital denies wrongdoing

Dr. Sanjay Nagraj, Director of Marble City Hospital, denied the allegations. He said, “The patient had terminal cancer and had already received treatment elsewhere before coming to us. At the time of hiring, we verified all documents. We don’t believe any fraud was involved from the hospital’s side.”

Family seeks justice

Prateek, the deceased woman’s relative, said with grief and anger, “We don’t know if she could have been saved, but it hurts to know a painter was pretending to be a doctor and playing with people’s lives. We were kept in the dark by the hospital.”

Bigger questions remain

This case has once again exposed the cracks in the private healthcare system and raised serious concerns about fake doctors operating unnoticed. How did one man complete an entire medical degree using someone else’s documents? How many more such cases are hidden? Without strict action, such incidents will keep putting lives at risk.
