Alexander Isak could be about to reveal all on Liverpool transfer saga in 'popcorn' interview

Alexander Isak could be set to give his side of the story about his refusal to play for Newcastle and his attempts to force through a move to Liverpool. Isak wants to join the Reds and is hoping a deal can be finalised before the transfer window closes.

The 25-year-old broke his silence on the saga last week, releasing a statement that claimed Newcastle have broken promises they made to him. "I've kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken," he said.

"That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn't reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors. The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.

"To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can't continue. That's where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself."

That statement has been Isak's only public comment on the situation, but he may speak out further next week.

Isak has been named in the Sweden squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo and the Newcastle Chronicle are reporting that he has been 'asked to fulfil press duties by the Swedish FA' in a move that could 'provide some "popcorn" content'.

Isak is said to have 'complied with all of the Swedish FA's requests', with a source in Sweden stating: "Swedish FA officials have promised that Isak will do media, let's see if they keep that promise!"

It comes after Sweden boss Jon Dahl Tomasson addressed the situation, insisting: "Nobody knows the big picture." Tomasson said: "Alex is a very professional player, a strong character and he has worked hard.

"He is a game changer. I have spoken to him several times, mentally he is strong. What we have said stays between us of course. Can he play 90 minutes? Of course not. I am very happy that Alexander Isak wants to be in the squad, he is a huge player.

"The situation he is in is not perfect and he has not trained with the team. But he is a player who can decide matches and he wants to be part of our squad, the World Cup is important for Alexander Isak."
