Barbados enjoys steady temperatures of around 29-30°C throughout the year, but January is one of the drier months. Like most of the Caribbean, you can expect the odd shower or two, but they’re short and warm and you’ll often hear them referred to as 'liquid sunshine'.

Average temperature: 33.1°C
February is the driest month of the year for much of Thailand, with more bearable heat and humidity levels, and if you’re travelling around the country you should miss the rain that can hit the east coast between October and January. Visiting in February may also be slightly cheaper than the earlier peak winter travel months.
Average temperature: 23.8°C
You’re unlikely to need to worry about wet weather in Dubai as it only gets an average of 95mm of rainfall over the whole year, but March is one of the best times to visit – before the sweltering summer temperatures kick in.
Dubai is also a good stop-off on the way to other winter sun destinations such as Mauritius and the Maldives.
Average temperature: 28.3°C
April is an ideal time to travel, especially if you want to visit the theme parks and need to go during a school holiday. The weather will be warmer than in most of Europe, but you won’t have the risk of heavy rain and high winds that come with hurricane season (from June to November). Avoid areas popular with students though, unless you’re after a loud and lively holiday, as some US colleges have their spring breaks in April.
Average temperature: 23.9°C
You can expect good weather all year round in the Canary Islands, with temperatures rarely dropping below 20°C even in winter, so it’s little wonder it’s one of the most popular holiday destinations for Brits. Holiday companies have recently seen an increase in bookings to Gran Canaria in late spring as holidaymakers look to avoid the crowds and high prices of the summer months.

Average temperature: 28.9°C
Turkey is another great ‘shoulder season’ hot spot. In June, average temperatures vary between 27°C in cities such as Istanbul and 32.1°C in popular coastal areas such as Bodrum.
The coastal town of Antalya is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination for UK travellers, combining ancient history with beautiful beaches and luxury resorts.
Average temperature: 31.2°C
In the peak summer months you’re spoilt for choice for hot weather holidays not far from home. Italy gets our vote for having something that will appeal to everyone, whatever type of holiday you’re looking for, from city breaks and beach resorts to mountain escapes and cruises.
August BaliAverage temperature: 24.4°C
If you’re looking to travel further afield than Europe, August is one of the best times of the year to visit the Indonesian islands of Bali. It’s the driest month, the seas are warm and there are 10 hours of sunshine a day on average. Explore the lush green mountains of Ubud, soak up the sun on the Seminyak beaches or take a boat out to the Gili Islands.
Average temperature: 28.9°C
Here at the Mirror we’re big fans of visiting Greece in September. Each year there will usually be at least one member of the team on holiday there this month, either on the mainland or on one of the country’s many beautiful islands. Prices and the number of visitors are typically lower than in the summer months, and the resort areas don’t close for winter until the end of October.
Average temperature: 28.3°C
October is an excellent time to visit this bustling city. Temperatures have dropped from the searing highs they can reach over the summer, making it more comfortable for exploring the bustling souks, ornate palaces and colourful gardens. Stay in a large hotel on the outskirts of the city or a centrally located riad, both of which offer calm oases away from the hustle and bustle.

Average temperature: 28.3°C
If you’re after hot weather in November without having to take a flight of eight hours or more, consider Cape Verde. This mountainous group of islands off the coast of West Africa offers something a little different to your usual ‘fly and flop’ holidays, with dramatic landscape, exhilarating activities and wide golden beaches that are typically quieter than those in popular European hot spots.
Average temperature: 30.4°C
Hot, sunny weather, lower chances of rain and the undeniably celebratory nature of the Maldives makes December one of the most popular times to visit, especially over Christmas and New Year. There are nearly 200 hotels and resorts spread across this stunning archipelago of tropical islands but they get booked up quickly, so start looking now to ensure an extra special end to 2025.
