Frankie Dettori is to show one of the stars of Saturday’s Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup how to win at Ascot. The Italian superstar quit Britain at the end of 2023 to relocate to the US where he is now established among the leading jockeys.
While in Britain he rode in 12 editions of the Shergar Cup, a unique event contested by teams of jockeys from home and abroad. There have been few better riders of the track than Dettori who rode 81 winners at Royal Ascot where he was leading rider seven times. In 1996 he famously went through the card, riding the winners of all seven races in what was dubbed ‘Frankie’s Magnificent Seven’.

So even though he is riding on the card at Saratoga in New York state on Saturday, he has offered to give US Katie Davis some tips on how to master the course.
Davis, 33, is from a family of jockeys. Her father, sister and brother are all former or currently successful riders.

She is a multiple stakes winner in the US where she has ridden more than 340 winners but will be making her British debut at Ascot on Saturday when her six mounts will include Miss Information, winner of the Kensington Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, in June.
“We were both riding work for Wesley Ward when Frankie caught me off guard.” said Davis, who featured in the hit Netflix documentary ‘Race For The Crown.
“He said, ‘Don’t you forget me. You gotta call me when the entries come out’. So we’re going to Facetime. Trust me, I’m here to win.”
Davis is part of the Rest Of The World team with the Hong Kong-based duo Karis Teetan and Hugh Bowman, the Australian best known for partnering the great Winx to 25 Group 1 victories.
She added: “Words can’t explain how much I am looking forward to it. I work well under pressure. It’s more of an excitement for me. I will definitely enjoy every bit of it.”
