Ruben Amorim has weighed in on the public spat between and former star . Onana's claim that than , who Matic now plays for, has made headlines in the build-up Thursday's quarter-final first leg between the two teams.
At a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, by saying: "If you're one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United's history then you need to take care of what you are talking about.
"If , or said that I would question myself but if you are statistically one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United's modern history, he needs to show that before he says it."
, posting: "I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent. We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud. Amorim, however, says that it's all a misunderstanding and has suggested Matic hasn't read Onana's full comments in which he started off by praising French side Lyon. "If you see the full quote of Andre Onana, it is quite different. The first sentence is that 'Lyon is a very, very good team'," the United manager told reporters.

"Sometimes the players don't listen to the full quotes and it is just a misunderstanding. I know Matic also, he is a great guy, so tomorrow is going to be a normal game."
Pressed again on Onana - who Amorim confirmed will start the match - and Matic's war of words, Amorim replied: "It is really hard to deal with that. Again, if you look to all the quotes, you cannot see disrespect there, just respect.
"But to show confidence to his team. Everyone talks about bad things about Manchester United this year. Someone has to show some confidence in our team. I know Nemanja Matic really well and how good a guy he is. I think he has heard things by half."

Onana - who signed for United from for £47million in 2023 - was speaking after Sunday's 0-0 draw with . The international said of Lyon: "It's a very good team. We know some of them but I don't think we have to focus on them.
