In the game, Dina is one of the younger residents of Jackson. She regularly goes on patrols with Ellie and other members, where their responsibilities include taking out straggling infected near the town and reporting back on any concerns to safety. Throughout the game, it is shared that she was originally from New Mexico and is of Jewish heritage.

At one point the player comes across an old Synagogue, resulting in Dina mentioning her ancestors survived the Spanish Inquisition and the Holocaust. Like, Ellie, she was orphaned at a young age, forcing to look after herself since she was 10 years old.

As mentioned in the first episode of season two, she was in a relationship with Jesse but the pair have recently broken up when viewers join them. She also begins to become much more than just friends with Ellie after they kiss at the town's dance.

However, the pair suffer some homophobic abuse before Joel steps in an attempt to protect Ellie. We won't spoil the events involving Dina later in the story here but she is set to become an important companion for the show's protagonist.

In the HBO series, she is played by Isabela Merced. The 23-year-old was born in Cleveland, Ohio but she has said that she considers herself to be more Peruvian than American and shared that Spanish was her first language.

Her breakout role was the lead in Nickelodeon series 100 Things to Do Before High School. She is also a singer and released her first album in 2015.

She had major roles in films such as Instant Family and Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado for which she earned rave reviews. Merced has also appeared in Madame Web and Alien: Romulus. She is set to appear in the James Gunn directed Superman movie later this year as Hawkgirl.
