After the price increase of the iPhone 17 Pro series, Apple may once again raise prices next year with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to reports, the main reason behind this potential price hike is the introduction of Apple’s next-generation A20 Bionic chip, which will be based on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process.
A report by China Times suggests that Apple’s A20 chip will significantly enhance performance and power efficiency compared to the previous A17 and A18 chips. However, this new 2nm manufacturing process is far more expensive. TSMC has made heavy investments in developing this cutting-edge technology, and reports indicate that production using the 2nm process could cost around 50 percent more than the current 3nm process.
Since Apple relies entirely on TSMC for chip production, this surge in manufacturing costs could push up the overall production expenses of the iPhone 18 series. While Apple generally tries to absorb such costs, the Pro and Pro Max variants—which feature premium hardware—are the most likely to see a price increase in 2026.
In addition to the new processor, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumored to come with a 6.9-inch OLED display, variable aperture camera system, and the A20 Pro Bionic chip, offering even higher performance and improved energy efficiency.
