Noida District Magistrate (DM) Medha Rupam is once again in the spotlight — but this time, not for administrative reasons. The buzz surrounds her younger sister, IRS officer Abhishree, who has recently given birth to a baby boy. With this, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, who is their father, has become a grandfather.
Medha Rupam shared the happy news herself through social media, expressing joy at becoming an aunt. Since then, both sisters — and their father, the CEC — have been trending in news circles.
Who is IRS Officer Abhishree?
Abhishree, like her sister Medha, is an accomplished civil servant. She belongs to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and is the second daughter of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. She is a 2018-batch officer who secured Rank 297 in the 2017 UPSC Civil Services Examination.
She completed her B.A. (Hons.) in Physics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the country.
Her Husband — IAS Officer Akshay Labru
Abhishree is married to IAS officer Akshay Labru, and the two tied the knot in a love marriage in 2020. Akshay is a 2018-batch IAS officer from the Tripura cadre, currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Jammu & Kashmir LG Secretariat.
Originally from Jammu, Akshay completed his schooling there and later graduated from Ramjas College, Delhi University.
Why is She in the News?
Abhishree recently became a mother to a baby boy, named Agastya. The news was shared by her sister Medha Rupam on social media, which quickly caught the attention of the media due to their family’s high-profile background — with a DM, an IRS officer, and the country’s Chief Election Commissioner all in one family.
