Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz could reunite at a new tennis exhibition event after playing together in the US Open mixed doubles. The blockbuster stars were knocked out in the first round at Flushing Meadows, losing to Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper.
In September, it was confirmed that the Prudential Center in New Jersey would host a new event called A Racquet at the Rock. Alcaraz was announced on the billing at the tournament, which will be played on Sunday, December 7, with the Spaniard due to take on Frances Tiafoe in a singles match. And when the tournament was launched, it was revealed that Emma Raducanu would also be in action against Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova.
With a month to go until the big day, tournament organisers have confirmed that mixed doubles will also be played at the event.
But no other players have been added to the line up as of yet, which suggests Raducanu and Alcaraz could be preparing to team up once again.
Ahead of the US Open mixed doubles, which was played using a shorter set format, Alcaraz said: "I'm super excited about it. I think it's going to be great. It was an amazing idea for the tournament. I will try to bring my doubles skills. We will try to win, but obviously it's going to be really, really fun."
And Raducanu explained in an interview with the LTA: "He messaged me and asked me to play. I was very surprised and excited, of course.
"It's going to be so much fun. I've known him for such a long time, so many years, so to share the court together is something really special and I really want to do as best as I can to not let my partner down."
She also told the BBC: "He asked me earlier on in the year. I was very surprised and honoured and excited. I went through the formality of asking my coach, but of course I was going to say yes."
The pair have experienced contrasting fortunes on the court this year, despite the fact that they are two of the biggest sports stars on the planet.
Alcaraz lifted the trophies at the French Open and the US Open to take his Grand Slam title tally to six.
Raducanu, meanwhile, was only able to progress to the third round at three Majors, with the former US Open champion falling in the second round at the French Open.
