A fun-filled evening turned into a nightmare after a in , sending families into panic and narrowly avoiding a major tragedy.
The shocking incident occurred at the Galactic Carnival Festival in on Saturday night, when a Waltzer car carrying three young children suddenly detached from the ride and went flying into another carriage. The horror unfolded around 7pm as dad Kevin McNulty sat in a neighbouring car behind his three children, aged 13, 12, and seven. One of the children was filming the ride when the chaos erupted, capturing the moment the car flew off the track, with screams of terror echoing in the background.
Mr McNulty took to Facebook to describe the harrowing experience: "The unthinkable happened. Going full pelt, not slowing down, their car came completely off and went flying into our car. It then smashed about the place crashing into the side of the track."
He credited a heavy speaker stationed nearby for stopping the car from potentially launching beyond the ride area.
"Thankfully there was a heavy large speaker that they collided with or they would have been through the whole thing and then the ending would have been a completely different story (a thought I can't stop thinking about)," he added.
Despite the terrifying crash, the children miraculously walked away without serious injury.
But Kevin expressed outrage that the carnival continued running other attractions while the wrecked Waltzers remained closed.
A source at the event confirmed the incident, saying: "It was very lucky that no one was seriously hurt. The Waltzer car came loose and it flew off the ride... The young girls were very shaken up by it."
They added that the ride has since been shut down pending a full investigation, adding: "These things are taken seriously."
The incident has prompted renewed calls for stricter safety checks at travelling funfairs, especially on high-speed rides.
