The mystique has been lifted on why has been spotted back on a tennis court this week. The Swiss maestro, who retired amid emotional scenes at the Laver Cup in 2022, was seen playing at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponca, prompting intrigue from his global army of fans.
When Federer, 43, , he vowed to return to the game. However, he ruled out playing again at a professional level, instead implying he'd take part in exhibition events. He stated: "I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour."
Thus far, though, he's stayed on the perimeter of the game. In 2023, he took part at , and last year, he was back at SW19, but only as an ambassador for Rolex.
Indeed, despite his inactive playing status, Federer is still endorsed by numerous global companies. Amongst them, he remains a shareholder in On, a Swiss footwear brand that specialises in sports trainers.
Federer became a shareholder in 2019 and immediately began using their trainers for sprint sessions in training. As well as an investor, he also took on roles as a contributing designer and global ambassador, and previously said: "We like it when little Swiss guys make a move on the big international stage."
Indeed, the company are the reason why he's been staying on the Spanish island. Helicopter Centre, a flying school based in Mallorca, took to social media to explain the presence of the former world No.1.
"If you've been wondering what's going on at the Mallorca Live Festival site, wonder no more," they posted. "@on_running is holding a corporate event. Wonder if investor Mr Federer will show up?"
The icon did indeed turn up, dressed in white with sunglasses as he practiced on the grass court. The amount of money Federer has invested in On has never been publicly disclosed, but after the initial deal co-founder David Allemann described it as "very meaningful."
