Terry Bradshaw slips up live on FOX NFL Sunday after Donald Trump declaration

Long-serving FOX NFL Sunday panellist Terry Bradshaw had a few hiccups during the 2024 season but decided to stay on air despite the blunders. His co-analyst, ex-NFL head coach Jimmy Johnson, opted for retirement. Bradshaw kicked off the 2025 season with another gaffe, mistakenly referring to the Washington Commanders by their former name, the Washington Redskins.

This came after an awkward moment where Bradshaw had to divert his gaze from Michael Strahan following his take on Aaron Rodgers. In the previous month, US President Donald Trump threatened to withhold promised federal funding from the team and owner Josh Harris unless they reverted to their old name, the Redskins. "My statement on the Washington Redskins has totally blown up, but only in a very positive way," Trump declared.

He added: "I may put a restriction on them that if they don't change the name back to the original 'Washington Redskins,' and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, 'Washington Commanders,' I won't make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington."

The team is investing £2billion of its own funds into a stadium located in DC rather than Northern Virginia. The Washington team was anticipating £740million in government funding to assist with infrastructure costs.

For Bradshaw, this slip of the tongue is likely just a harmless error.

"Deebo Samuel, though, coming around from the left. Right side to the left side for Washington, takes it in for a 19-yard touchdown," he said while describing the highlight. "All Redskins 21-6 over the New York football Giants."

Washington changed their name to the Washington Football Team in 2020 whilst the organisation deliberated long-term replacements for the Redskins, eventually choosing Commanders prior to the 2022 campaign.

Star off-season acquisition Deebo Samuel's 19-yard rushing touchdown capped off a commanding 21-6 Week 1 victory.

Samuel, a former All-Pro wideout, thrived in San Francisco while operating in a versatile capacity that showcased his abilities both from the slot and taking direct snaps.

He may well adopt a comparable role in Washington: on Sunday, he recorded seven catches for 77 yards alongside the 19-yard score.

2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels maintained his excellent form, connecting on 19 of his 30 attempts for 233 yards and a touchdown whilst contributing an additional 63 yards rushing.

Bradshaw claimed an NFL MVP award and four Super Bowl titles during his playing career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He made the switch to television work shortly afterwards.
