AGRA: A 41-year-old Indian Air Force Warrant Officer (WO), Ramkumar Tiwari, from UP's Pratapgarh died during a routine para jumping exercise in Agra on Saturday morning due to a technical malfunction that prevented the parachute from deploying.
An IAF statement said: "A para jump instructor from Akash Ganga Skydiving Team succumbed to injuries sustained during a demo drop at Agra today (Saturday). The IAF deeply mourns the loss, and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, standing firmly with them in this hour of grief."
Earlier in February this year, a Junior Warrant officer died during a routine para jumping exercise at Malpura dropping zone. The deceased was identified as Manju Nath (36) from Karnataka. He was among 12 para jumpers who descended from an aircraft on Feb 8, but his parachute failed to deploy leading to his death.
Sadar Bazar SHO Pradeep Kumar said the Saturday's incident happened around 9.30 am when Ramkumar Tiwari was conducting a demonstration.
Sources said that when Tiwari leapt from an aircraft, his parachute malfunctioned, resulting in a ground impact that caused severe injuries. He was taken to Military Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The body was sent for postmortem examination.
Tiwari is survived by his wife, Priti Tiwari, and two children aged 14 and 10.
The body will be taken to his village in Pratapgarh for cremation with full military honours.
