AGRA: A court in Agra sentenced a 54-year-old man to life in jail for killing his younger brother after repeatedly hitting him with a brick over a property dispute in 2020. The court of additional sessions judge, Ravi Kant, considered the testimony by the convict's mother to nail him in the case, said ADGC Hemant Dixit.

On Sept 28 that year, Agra resident Shrikrishna Sharma killed Ram Sharma (42) with a brick while he was asleep. It was around 5am. His mother, Kusum Sharma, who was asleep in the same room, immediately woke up and tried to stop Shrikrishna, but he pushed her aside and continued to strike his sibling with the brick. He then fled from the spot. The victim later died at SM Medical College.

Both Shrikrishna and his brother worked as electricians and were unmarried. An FIR was lodged against Shrikrishna under IPC section 302 (murder) on their sister's complaint and he was arrested.

While delivering the verdict on Friday, the court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, adding that he will have to spend three months in jail if he fails to pay the amount. The judge further added that 50% of the penalty will be given to Kusum "as compensation for her son's loss".
