Shillong: As part of its ongoing public outreach initiatives, the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, under the Union ministry of information & broadcasting, organised a special awareness programme on ‘green living' at Kyntiew Shaphrang Higher Secondary School, Laitlyngkot, on Friday.
The event was conducted under the themes of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva', ‘Poshan Abhiyan', and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', with the goal of fostering environmental consciousness, nutritional health and civic responsibility among students and the community.
"The programme was a part of CBC Shillong's continuous campaign to strengthen grassroots-level awareness and citizen participation through information, education, and communication activities," said Gopajit Das, assistant director, CBC Shillong. He urged students to be "ambassadors of cleanliness, health, and sustainable practices".
L Jaba, medical officer and in-charge Laitlyngkot PHC, explained the spiritual and environmental essence of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. "Planting a tree in honour of our mothers is a powerful gesture of love and environmental responsibility," he said and also spoke on ‘Poshan Abhiyan', emphasising nutrition as the foundation for a healthy and productive life.
"Malnutrition is a silent crisis. Let us act together to build a healthier India through proper nutrition and hygiene," he urged and emphasised the role of children, mothers, teachers and healthcare workers in creating a "well-nourished and healthier India".
O Sumer, health and education officer, East Khasi Hills district, spoke on the dietary needs of adolescents and focused on enhancing nutrient values through proper cooking. She emphasised the importance of micronutrients and prevention of anaemia through regular WIFS (Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation).
Anie Swer, block coordinator of the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, Khatarshnong C&RD Block, Laitkroh, spoke on the importance of collective responsibility in achieving cleanliness and urged students to work hand-in-hand with school teachers, families, and local bodies to maintain clean surroundings and ensure the mission's impact reaches every corner of society.
Longshisha Shabong, principal of Kyntiew Shaphrang Hr Sec School, emphasised the school's commitment to integrating these values into everyday student life.
