Kanpur: Samridhi of Varanasi and Sanchay Dubey of Agra emerged as champions in women's and men's categories respectively at the state level open chess championship concluded at Sitapur on Saturday. Tanya Verma of Kanpur secured runner-up position in women's category with 5.5 points, whilst champion Samridhi accumulated the highest 6 points. Tanya and Kanak Dubey were level on points at 5.5, however, owing to superior progressive points, Tanya clinched second place whilst Kanak finished third.
In men's category, Sanchay Dubey accumulated 7.5 points. Prakhar Tripathi of Varanasi also secured 7.5 points but was designated runner-up. Shreyansh Singh of Agra secured third place with 7 points. Vikas Nishad of Kanpur finished 8th with 5.5 points. Sunil Kumar (13th place), Atharva Sonwani (47th place), Kunal Kalra (51st place) and Aradhya Srivastava (64th place), all from Kanpur, participated in the tournament.tnn
