Mangaluru: Karnataka Unaided PU College Management Association (KUPMA) stakeholders in the district who met recently, decided to work towards strengthening their association, which is currently not united.
There are about 130 private PU colleges in the district, and many still have not come under it. Narendra L Nayak, state secretary of the association, said that by being united, they aim to appeal to the govt to take their voice into consideration while making any decision, which will help the student fraternity.
Nayak said that KUPMA in other districts was active and united. The recent meeting pressed for a strong and united association since 50% of the pre-university students in DK study in private and aided PU colleges here. "Being united will help in questioning the govt's rules and regulations, which often benefit govt PU colleges and not others. Further, the association can also help the govt while formulating any rules by giving ground reality suggestions. In total, we will be able to help the student community," he said.
During the recent meeting, M Mohan Alva, president of the state committee, addressed the gathering and emphasised the need to strengthen the organisation in DK. "The private unaided pre-university colleges in our district provide quality education to students. Many students are being guided to prepare for competitive exams, consistently delivering exemplary results in the state's pre-university examinations. Recently, we urged the govt to amend several aspects of the guidelines issued by the State Pre-University Education Board. In the coming days, we must collectively press the govt to fulfil our demands. Our organisation and the govt should work together to promote issues that are beneficial to students. In this regard, we all need to actively engage by obtaining membership in the organisation," he said.
During the meeting, a dialogue was held with more than 50 invited members of the district's management boards. Several members of the college management boards discussed the guidelines of the state pre-university education department. It was decided to compile everyone's opinions and submit an extensive petition to the state's education minister by the state committee.

Yuvraj Jain, president of Excellent Pre-University College, was elected as the district president; Manjunath Revankar, president of Suraj International Pre-University College, as the secretary; and Ramesh K, chief adviser of Shakti Pre-University College, as the treasurer.
