Berhampur: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a woman and duping her of gold ornaments and cash. The accused, M Rajesh Kumar Reddy of Chikalakhandi near Chhatrapur, had posed as a policeman to gain the woman's trust, police said.
According to IIC of Baidyanath Pur police station Suchitra Parida, Reddy was working as a security guard in a private security agency. Over the past two years, he developed a relationship with the victim, a mother of a four-year-old, under the false pretence of being a policeman. During this time, he repeatedly engaged in physical relations with her.
He also took 75 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh cash from the woman, promising to return them after his brother's wedding within 15 days. However, he did not do so and instead threatened the woman and her husband when she demanded the money and gold back. The survivor filed a complaint on Mar 25.
