We all love to indulge in some sweet treat after a tiring day. Comedian Jeff Ross too indulged in ice cream, after he wrapped up the opening night performance in Mill Valley, California. But what came after was something that he couldn’t even imagine in a nightmare. His face was swollen up, and his lips ‘blew up’ and was taken to the ER.
Jeff Ross, 59, shared a series of pictures of the allergic reaction he had after having an ice cream. On Sunday, Apr.6, the comedian dropped the pictures on Instagram and also explained how he ended up in a hospital bed after eating ice cream.
“ROAST ME. TONIGHT’S SHOW NEAR SAN FRANCISCO MUST GO ON! Had such a fun opening night performance of @takeabananafortheride up here in Mill Valley, California @throckmortontheatre,” he said in the post.
After the show, he tried a new ice cream flavour, “Afterwards, me and the band celebrated with some Burata ice cream at a restaurant down the street courtesy of the nice owner. It was delicious. Seriously yummy.”
Though Ross thoroughly enjoyed the taste of the ice cream, it landed him in the ER. Ros spoke about how his lips ‘blew up’ and he had to spend the entire night in the ER. “It was my first allergic reaction ever. I guess that’s pretty remarkable considering I’m constantly shoving whatever food is in front of me into my face,” he said.
Though the comedian recovered, it's important to have an awareness of food allergy, especially ice cream. From kids to adults, we all love to eat some sweet treat every now and then. Did you know you could develop an allergy to ice cream? Ross too had the reaction for the first time.

- Dairy proteins: Individuals who have dairy allergy can have an allergic reaction resulting in symptoms such as hives, digestive issues, and respiratory problems.
- Egg proteins: Some ice cream use eggs to enhance its texture and flavor. Egg proteins, such as ovalbumin, can lead to allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. The symptoms of an egg allergy can range from mild skin reactions to severe anaphylaxis.
- Nuts: Certain ice cream flavors contain nuts or nut-based ingredients such as almond extract or peanut butter. Individuals with nut allergies can get severe reactions, including anaphylaxis if the ice cream has nuts in it.
- Soy proteins: Some ice cream brands use soy-based ingredients as a dairy alternative or emulsifier. People with soy allergy can develop digestive issues, skin reactions, and respiratory problems.
