The Los Angeles Lakers are set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in what promises to be an electrifying first-round playoff matchup. While the Lakers enter the series as favorites, franchise legend Magic Johnson has voiced a major concern that could tilt the balance in Minnesota’s favor.

Anthony Edwards poses a serious threat to the Los Angeles Lakers

Magic Johnson didn’t hold back when expressing his worries about the Timberwolves’ young superstar. “I’m scared for my Lakers because the game’s most exciting player, superstar Anthony Edwards, is a matchup problem,” Magic Johnson posted on X.

Anthony Edwards has rapidly developed into one of the league’s most dynamic players. After leading the Timberwolves to the conference finals last season, he elevated his game even further this year. With Karl-Anthony Towns no longer on the roster, Edwards stepped up as the undisputed leader, averaging a career-high 27.6 points while shooting 39.5% from three. His improved scoring efficiency makes him a nightmare for any defense, including a Lakers squad that relies heavily on its star power.

Key players who could decide the series

While Anthony Edwards is the focal point, Magic Johnson emphasized that role players will have a major impact. He singled out Naz Reid and Donte DiVincenzo as X-factors for Minnesota, while naming Rui Hachimura as a crucial piece for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Despite his concerns, Johnson still predicts a Lakers victory in six games. The combination of LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves gives Los Angeles a formidable offensive trio. However, the absence of a true defensive anchor inside could haunt them if Edwards exploits that weakness.

Why this series is a must-watch basketball

Magic Johnson made it clear he won’t miss a second of the action. “If the Timberwolves beat my Lakers it’s because Naz Reid and Donte DiVenczo both have a big series. I’m picking my Lakers in 6, led by superstars LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Austin Reaves will be the third man in the ring for the Lakers and he has to have a big series as well as Rui Hachimara. Rui has to come up big for the Lakers to win.” he posted.
