This comes after terrorists, at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday attacked Baisaran meadow, , situated roughly 7km from Pahalgam, accessible via walking or horseback. The attack unfolded while numerous tourists were spending their afternoon amid the scenic backdrop of snow-covered mountains and pine woodlands. The location, a prominent tourist destination in Pahalgam, regularly attracts hundreds of visitors daily, with substantial security arrangements including checkpoints and armed personnel maintaining vigilance.
Among those who lost their lives was Navy officer Vinay Narwal, who was on his honeymoon. He served at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi and had wed on April 16. The casualties also included two international visitors - one from Nepal and another from UAE.
The security personnel swiftly responded by evacuating the injured to local medical facilities and initiating a search operation to locate the assailants. They subsequently sealed off the entire area.
