Bullet-riddled bodies of three transgender women were found along a highway in Karachi early Sunday, Pakistan police said.
City police official Javed Ahmed Abro told AFP that the victims were found shortly after midnight in the Memon Goth area. “We are still in the process of confirming their identities,” he said, adding that it was “too early to determine the motive behind the killings.”
Te recent flare-up marked the latest incident of violence against the marginalised community in Pakistan. Sindh Chief Minister’s office condemned the killings and directed police to “immediately arrest the killers.” The statement stressed that “transgender persons are a vulnerable segment of society, and we must all give them dignity and respect.”
The investigation is ongoing as police teams work to identify the victims and track down the perpetrators.
